ICNA Relief: Winter Clothing Drive

By the Grace of Allah, ICNA Relief, a project of ICNA Chicago has started serving the local community. One of their many project, ICNA Relief endeavored to help and support Muslim refugees from Burma. It was distressing to see their living conditions and state of their affairs. So that you may understand the gravity of situation, imagine families with little children, living in apartments without proper winter attire and comforters to keep them warm.

As the winter is quickly approached, during the month of November, ICNA Relief workers and volunteers organized an effort for these Burmese families to protect them from upcoming harsh winter weather. Many different winter articles and clothing were distributed among the refugees including but not limited to: Winter coats and jackets, boots, shoes, gloves, long johns, medications for the sick members, comforters, bed sheets and pillows. Additionally, upon their request they were later give Prayer rugs and copies of Qur’an.  So far we have distributed 42 Comforters, 15 Bed sheets, 30 long winter coats, and 25 children’s jackets, 15 pairs of boots, 15 men’s jackets, 15 bags of socks (12 pairs per bag), 20 pairs of gloves, 20 scarves, and other basic winter necessities. These numbers continues to increase daily Alhumdulillah.

While focusing on these Burmese families, ICNA relief also provided help for Iraqi refugee families with winter clothing and their basic necessities.

Alhumdulillah this is the first ICNA Relief office opened in Oakbrook Terrace. Different volunteers and workers showed up to survey the office and perform necessary tasks to make this office functional and operational for administrative work and relief efforts. Soon after the opening of this office, many people started inquiring about this location to donate valuable merchandise as donation. Some of the future planning for this ICNA Office include free clinic for the needy, food pantry for poor, and other community services including helping underprivileged members of society to get government and state funds needed for their survival.

As we progress in our efforts and move ahead, we will Inshallah keep you posted. Please pray that may Allah accept our efforts and help us help the unfortunate.
